Easy Pumpkin Recipe With Spices (Panch Phoran) | How to Cook WIth Spices

Method: Step 1. Cut the eggplant in large cubes and soak in salty water for 10 minutes. Step 2. Peel and cut the potatoes in cubes. Step 3. Heat cooking oil in a pan, add 2 tsp of panch phoran, and cook for about a minute, until mustard seeds start “jumping”. When the mustard seeds start popping, add potatoes, mix it well, so that potatoes are covered in spice. Add eggplants and mix everything again. Cover with the lid and cook for about 15-20 minutes. Stir the vegetables from time to time and check that they do not burn – if necessary, you can add a bit of water. Step 3. Add turmeric, chilli powder and salt. Mix everything nicely to make sure that the spice is equally spread. Cook for a few more minutes. Your dish is ready to serve – just garnish it with some fresh coriander at the end and enjoy as a side dish or on its own. Subscribe to our weekly recipes here

The 3 reasons you should NEVER eat wheat -- Yes, even "whole wheat" ???

Reason #1 -- Wheat causes blood sugar disruption, Glycation of your cells, increases AGING, weight gain & boosts Diabetes risk Before I tell you why wheat can actually speed up the aging process in your body, let's clarify some simple biochemistry in your body... This deals with "glycation" in your body, and substances called Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs). These nasty little compounds called AGEs speed up the aging process in your body including damage over time to your organs, your joints, and of course, wrinkled skin. So with that said, what is one of the biggest factors that increase production of AGEs inside your body? This may surprise you, but high blood sugar levels over time dramatically increase age-accelerating AGEs in your body. This is why type 2 diabetics many times appear that they have not aged well and look older than their real age. But this age-increasing effect is NOT just limited to diabetics. So, let's get back to how "whole wheat" relates to this... Here is a little-known fact that's often covered up by the massive marketing campaigns by giant food companies that want you to believe that "whole wheat" is healthy for you... ... But the fact is that wheat contains a very unusual type of carbohydrate (not found in other foods) called Amylopectin-A, which has been found in some tests to spike your blood sugar HIGHER than even pure table sugar. In fact, amylopectin-A (from wheat) raises your blood sugar MORE than almost any other carbohydrate source on earth based on blood sugar response testing that's documented in studies. This means that wheat-based foods such as breads, bagels, cereals, muffins, and other baked goods often cause MUCH higher blood sugar levels than most other carbohydrate sources. If you don't believe me, here's something you should know... I ran personal blood sugar tests on myself using a blood glucometer about 45 minutes after eating 2 slices of wheat bread vs eating a bowl of oatmeal, with equivalent grams of carbohydrates. The blood sugar test results of wheat vs oatmeal: 2 slices of whole wheat toast: 45 minutes after consumption: Blood sugar spiked from 86 fasting level to 155 1 Bowl of Oatmeal (equivalent grams of carbs to 2 slices wheat toast) 45 minutes after consumption: Blood sugar increased from 86 fasting level to 112 As you know now, the higher your average blood sugar levels are over time, the more AGEs are formed inside your body, which makes you age FASTER. Clearly, the whole wheat spiked blood sugar MUCH higher than the oatmeal, and if you don't know, 155 is a massive blood sugar reading that will certainly contribute to faster aging if you eat wheat frequently... and most people eat wheat without even thinking about it at almost EVERY meal...Yikes! Not only that, but the high blood sugar spikes caused by wheat also makes your body pump out more insulin which makes you pack on more body fat... Not fun at all! These massive blood sugar spikes from eating wheat daily also cause damage over time to your blood sugar regulation system, harming your pancreas, causing insulin resistance, and eventually causing type 2 Diabetes. I think we have a strong case against eating so-called "healthy" wheat! Reason #2 -- Gluten and other gut-damaging compounds The topic of gluten is on fire in the media lately... ...But most people are confused as to whether there's any real health risks with gluten for the average person that doesn't have Celiac disease. The truth is that even if you are not officially "gluten intolerant" or "gluten sensitive", there are hundreds of published studies that indicate that gluten can cause inflammation in your digestive system, and even cause "permeability" in your gut, which can lead to a health condition that's on the rise lately called Leaky Gut, as well as other digestive issues and autoimmune problems. Scientists theorize that the reason gluten is causing these digestive system problems is due to the excessive hybridization of wheat over the last 50 years, which has created newly modified gluten molecules that are foreign to the human digestive system compared to the ancient wheat that humans ate for several thousand years historically, and even compared to the wheat that your grandparents ate 50+ years ago. Reason #3 -- Antinutrients and mineral blockers in wheat The third reason that wheat is terrible for you is that it contains what's called "antinutrients", which are naturally occurring compounds in the wheat plant, but can cause undesirable effects in humans that eat too much of them. One of these antinutrients is called phytates, which blocks the absorption in your body of certain minerals like zinc, iron, manganese, and calcium if you eat wheat too often. Again, most people eat wheat with almost every meal (cereal in the morning, bread on sandwich at lunch, and pasta or bread at dinner), so this can cause a mineral deficiency in your body over time that leads to many health conditions. Wheat has other mineral blockers and antinutrients aside from phytates, such as lectins. Lectins are another constituent of wheat that causes gut irritation. Yet another reason to minimize or eliminate wheat from your diet. There's absolutely nothing "essential" about wheat in the human diet...It simply does more harm than good...period. Many people often ask me... "But what about the FIBER in wheat? I thought that's why it's supposed to be healthy?" Sorry, you can get ALL of the fiber you need from fruits, veggies, and nuts, without the digestive system damage and massive blood sugar issues that are caused by wheat.

What Poverty Can Teach Us About Our Unhealthy Relationship with Food Feb 26, 2018 08:48 pm Insight from The Hunger Project that will hopefully change our unhealthy relationship with food.

WHAT POVERTY CAN TEACH US ABOUT OUR UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD February 26, 2018 Unhealthy Relationship with Food 80000 Like Joe Leech, Guest Waking Times Is the keto diet a good idea? Should I be intermittent fasting? What’s the fastest way to lose belly fat? As an online dietitian, these were the questions I was bombarded with last year… and it says a lot about our relationship with food. Despite all the diets and food fads, the latest CDC statistics indicate that obesity in American adults and children has been increasing at its maximum historical rate since 2011. We’re basically eating ourselves to death! Yet, in developing countries there are about 800 million people who will eat just one meal today, if even that. These people are also faced with food issues, but at the complete opposite end of the spectrum when compared to us. Nothing brought this home for me more than my trip to rural Uganda. I noticed a striking contrast in how people treat their relationship with food and what issued they confront on a daily basis. The Hunger Project: You Won’t Look at Food the Same In 2017, I traveled to Africa with The Hunger Project, a not-for-profit devoted to helping end world hunger. Instead of providing food handouts, this organization raises money to build a central community building that – run by local volunteers – provides villagers with access to a school, a health clinic, clean water, food storage, and micro-finance banks. In addition, demonstration farms offer training on how to farm “cash crops” such as coffee. This means locals learn how to grow food to sell, not just to eat, in order to generate an income. When you actually see starving people, and how a small quantity of simple foods can dramatically improve their lives, it puts your own consumption into perspective. It makes you reevaluate how much you eat and how often. Moreover, it makes you realize all the insignificant things we complain about. It is truly humbling. Rather than attempt to explain my experience in Uganda, I decided to document it in a video. I invite you to watch it below. Hopefully, just watching this will change your relationship with food and the way you think about it – where it comes from, how much variety we have, how accessible it is, and how wasteful we are. Learn more about my experience here or visit The Hunger Project to learn more. This Recipe Improves Vision and Cleanses the Liver and Colon

This Recipe Improves Vision and Cleanses the Liver and Colon Aging causes changes in cells, tissues, and organs, thus changing the entire body, both internally and externally. The normal process of aging deteriorates the function of cells, which eventually die. And, the organ’s function depends on the condition of the cells within it. What’s more, a decline of the function of one organ, such as due to aging, affects the function of another. As you can see, everything in our body is connected with each other. One thing leads to another, which is why one health problem can often cause another. Aging is inevitable for every living being on the planet, at least for now, and that means changes in our bodies will continue to happen throughout our entire life. This natural process affects every cell, organ, and body function sooner or later, by gradually weakening their function. We can’t stop this from happening, but we can delay and reduce the effects of aging by taking proper care of our health. What’s more, being old doesn’t necessarily mean you have a weak heart, damaged liver, poor kidney function, or bad vision. Still, some age-related health problems occur sooner than others. Your job is to protect the organs prone to early deterioration due to aging, thus preserve their optimal function as long as you can. Early Health Problems Related to Aging Some of the earliest health problems related to aging affect the eyes, liver, and colon. Eyes As you age, the sharpness of your vision reduces, no matter how good glasses you wear. Also, you might get dry eyes due to lower tear production and a smaller number of mucous cells in the conjunctiva. The most common retina-related diseases in older age include detachment of the retina, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Other eye problems due to aging are cataracts, enophthalmos (retraction of the eyeball within the orbit), etc. Liver Aging makes the liver becomes susceptible to many microscopic and structural changes. For example, it gets darker in color, it shrinks, and its ability to metabolize substances reduces. The bile production may also reduce, as well as its ability to withstand stress. Aging increases the risk of developing fatty liver. Colon The most common gastrointestinal problem related to aging is irregular bowel movements. That’s most likely because of poor function or some disease on the large intestines. Other age-related problems connected to this organ are hemorrhoids and diarrhea, as well as polyps. Natural Way to Improve Their Function A lot of older people say they have improved the function of these organs naturally, using a combination of several healthy ingredients. This blend helped them remove fat from their liver, improve their vision, and cleanse their colon, thus regaining normal bowel movement. The key ingredient in this recipe is the ordinary, yet powerful beetroot. It has an incredible nutrient content and provides some mind-blowing health benefits. It contains the rare compounds betaine and tryptophan which help calm down the nerves and fight stress effects. Consuming this vegetable regularly improves the cardiovascular system, boosts the blood circulation, and increases the energy levels, all of which will make your day easier. The powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of beetroot help prevent free radical damage, which is otherwise linked to cancer, diabetes, and more chronic diseases. One of the best ways to obtain the mind-blowing benefits of beetroot is to combine it with the following ingredients to make a delicious salad. beet salad What You Need 2 onions 2 or 3 beetroots Vinegar Salt to taste Extra virgin olive oil Directions After peeling the beetroots, cook them in water with a bit of salt. Then, chop them into small cubes. Cut the onions into small pieces and add them to the beetroot cubes. Pour some olive oil and vinegar, and sprinkle some salt to taste. You can drizzle some vinaigrette and let it stay for an hour. Enjoy your delicious, health-boosting salad. If consumed regularly, this salad will help improve your vision and detox your liver and colon.

The 6 Tastes: Our Guide Map to Optimal Nutrition ayurvedic recipes Much of the wisdom of Ayurvedic nutrition rests on the tip of your tongue, literally! According to Ayurveda, the sense of taste is a natural guidemap towards proper nutrition. For ages, humans relied largely upon taste to discover healthy foods in nature and avoid toxicity. Our tastebuds do much more than simply identify tastes; they unlock the nutritive value of foods and provide the initial spark to the entire digestive process. Food speaks to us directly through taste. A juicy pear may call out to us with a gentle message of delight, while the flaming chili pepper cries out in warning. As we tune into the tastes naturally desired by the body, we tap into the body’s innate wisdom regarding food and nutrition. Ayurveda identifies 6 Tastes by which all foods can be categorized: Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, Pungent, and Astringent. While the first four tastes are probably recognizable, the last two may not seem familiar. Pungent taste is hot and spicy as found in a chili pepper, while Astringent taste is dry and light as found in popcorn. Taste Primary Actions Common Sources Sweet Builds tissues, calms nerves Fruit, grains, natural sugars, milk Sour Cleanses tissues, increases absorption of minerals Sour fruits, yogurt, fermented foods Salty Improves taste to food, lubricates tissues, stimulates digestion Natural salts, sea vegetables Bitter Detoxifies and lightens tissues Dark leafy greens, herbs and spices Pungent Stimulates digestion and metabolism Chili peppers, garlic, herbs and spices Astringent Absorbs water, tightens tissues, dries fats Legumes, raw fruits and vegetables, herbs An Exploration of Taste: Basic Principles of Ayurvedic Nutrition 1) Include all 6 Tastes in each meal The 6 Tastes offer us a user-friendly guide map for how to nourish ourselves. Rather than looking at nutritional labels for X amount of protein or Y amount of carbohydrates, the 6 Tastes naturally guide us towards our body’s nutritional needs. Each taste feeds our mind, body, senses, and spirit in its own unique way. From a modern nutritional perspective, the 6 Tastes satisfy each of the major dietary building blocks. Sweet foods, for example, are rich in fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and water, whereas Bitter and Astringent foods are high in vitamins and minerals. The brain sends the body signals when it requires energy in the form of food. By incorporating all 6 Tastes into each meal, we ensure that these signals are adequately met, thus avoiding food cravings or the over-consumption of certain foods.. Including the 6 tastes in each meal doesn’t need to be a daunting task. Adding a squeeze of lemon to cooked dishes, for example, can quickly satisfy the Sour taste, while adding a side salad will fulfill the Bitter and Astringent tastes. 2) Allow your unique constitution to determine the proportion of tastes you eat The body naturally desires tastes that balance its doshic makeup and shuns tastes of an aggravating nature. In this sense, things are made pretty easy for us: If we simply follow our natural inclinations, we are led to the proper foods. Vata individuals, for example, are naturally drawn to moist, grounding foods, while Kapha individuals favor light, drying foods. Ayurvedic nutrition recommends including all 6 tastes in each meal, while favoring those tastes that bring greater balance to your particular constitution. A Pitta individual, for example, will favor cooling foods and spices such as dark leafy greens and fennel, which are high in Bitter and Astringent tastes, while requiring a smaller quantity of the Pungent taste. Balancing the Doshas Through Taste Most Balancing Most Aggravating Vata Sweet, Sour, Salty Bitter, Pungent, Astringent Pitta Sweet, Bitter, Astringent Sour, Salty, Pungent Kapha Pungent, Bitter, Astringent Sweet, Sour, Salty In the overview of the 6 Tastes below, “-” after a doshic initial refers to a balancing (or decreasing) effect on that particular dosha, while “+” refers to an aggravating (or increasing) effect. ayurvedic nutrition Ayurvedic recipes Sweet taste results from the combination of Water and Earth and is heavy, moist, and cooling by nature. In the West, sugary foods are most commonly associated with this taste. Sweet taste is also found in milk and milk products (like butter, ghee, and cream), most grains (especially wheat, rice, and barley), many legumes (like beans and lentils), sweet fruits (such as bananas and mangos), and certain cooked vegetables (such as carrots, sweet potatoes, and beets). Sweet taste naturally increases bulk, moisture, and weight in the body. For this reason, it is excellent for building the body’s seven vital tissues (called dhatus) of plasma, blood, fat, muscles, bones, marrow, and reproductive fluids. Sweet taste also increases saliva, soothes mucous membranes and burning sensations, relieves thirst, and has beneficial effects on the skin, hair, and voice. ayurvedic nutrition Ayurvedic diet Sour Taste is composed of Earth and Fire and is hot, light, and moist by nature. It is commonly found in citrus fruits (such as lemon and limes), sour milk products (like yogurt, cheese, and sour cream), and fermented substances (including wine, vinegar, pickles, sauerkraut, and soy sauce). Used in moderation, Sour taste stimulates digestion, helps circulation and elimination, energizes the body, strengthens the heart, relieves thirst, maintains acidity, sharpens the senses, and helps extract minerals such as iron from food. It also nourishes all the vital tissues (dhatus) except the reproductive tissues (the exception being yogurt, which nourishes all the tissues). Ayurvedic nutrition Ayurvedic diet Salty taste is composed of Fire and Water and is hot, heavy, and moist by nature. It is found in any salt (such as sea salt and rock salt), sea vegetables (like seaweed and kelp), and foods to which large amounts of salt are added (like nuts, chips, and pickles). Due to its drying quality in the mouth, it may seem counterintuitive to think of Salty taste as moistening. The element of Water in its composition, however, relates to its water retaining quality. Salty taste falls somewhere between Sweet and Sour tastes with regard to its heavy and moist qualities. While Sweet taste stimulates the greatest water retention and weight gain in the body, Salty taste will have similar effects when used in excess by any of the doshas. In moderation, Salty taste improves the flavor of food, improves digestion, lubricates tissues, liquefies mucous, maintains mineral balance, aids in the elimination of wastes, and calms the nerves. Due to its tendency to attract water, it also improves the radiance of the skin and promotes overall growth in the body. Ayurvedic diet Pungent taste derives from the elements of Fire and Air and is hot, dry, and light. It is the hottest of all the 6 Tastes and is found in certain vegetables (such as chili peppers, garlic, and onions), and in spices (like black pepper, ginger, and cayenne). In small amounts, Pungent taste stimulates digestion, clears the sinuses, promotes sweating and detoxification, dispels gas, aids circulation, improves metabolism, and relieves muscle pain. Ayurvedic diet Bitter taste is composed of Air and Ether and is light, cooling, and dry by nature. It is found in green leafy vegetables (such as spinach, kale, and green cabbage), other vegetables (including zucchini and eggplant), herbs and spices (like turmeric, fenugreek, and dandelion root), coffee, tea, and certain fruits (such as grapefruits, olives, and bitter melon). While Bitter taste is often not appealing alone, it stimulates the appetite and helps bring out the flavor of the other tastes. Bitter taste is a powerful detoxifying agent, and has antibiotic, anti-parasitic, and antiseptic qualities. It is also helpful in reducing weight, water retention, skin rashes, fever, burning sensations and nausea. Ayurvedic nutrition Ayurvedic diet Astringent taste results from the combination of Air and Earth and is dry, cooling, and heavy by nature. It is the least common of all the 6 Tastes and can be found in legumes (such as beans and lentils), fruits (including cranberries, pomegranates, pears, and dried fruit), vegetables (such as, broccoli, cauliflower, artichoke, asparagus and turnip), grains (such as rye, buckwheat, and quinoa), spices and herbs (including turmeric and marjoram), coffee, and tea. Astringent taste is not as cold as Bitter taste but has a greater cooling effect on the body than Sweet taste. Astringent taste is classified more in relation to its effect on the tongue than its actual taste. It creates a puckering sensation in the mouth (such as cranberries) or a dry, chalky feeling (such as many beans). Foods like broccoli or cauliflower have a mildly Astringent taste that is less detectable. Dry foods such as crackers and chips, most raw vegetables, and the skins of fruits also have Astringent qualities.

Be a leaner and healthier too .

Processed sugar wear out your pancreas and insulin sensitivity. How did you feel when you woke up this morning? Were you refreshed and able to jump out of bed… …or did it take a while to force yourself up and out of bed, after being rudely shaken out of your slumber by that stupid alarm clock buzz, buzz, buzzing in your ear? Did your body feel “young” and energetic as you got up, or... ...Were you achy and groggy from another restless night’s sleep? When you looked yourself in the mirror, did you see a fresh, young face, or… …Did you stagger into the bathroom, ankles and knees creaking, hunched over from back pain and tightness, and see an old version of yourself staring back through the mirror? With bags under your eyes, dry & graying hair, wrinkled & dry skin? When you looked down as you got dressed did you see a fit, lean, and healthy body, or… … Did you see an ever-growing stomach, soft, “flabby” fat, and a body that’s become weak, tired and soft? What goes through your mind as you look at yourself? Are you happy with the way you look and feel, or… … Are you frustrated by your life, with your lack of health, and with your inability to lose weight and keep it off? Do you mumble to yourself, “What the hell? How did I get to look and feel like this?” Are you at ease and peaceful, or stressed as you get ready for your day? Do you have to drink multiple cups of coffee before you can even think about being productive and nice? Do you drink more throughout the day, or even worse, use energy drinks and soda, because you have wild energy swings where you go from feeling good and energetic… to crashing and feeling like you need a nap? Do you get winded easy? Lose your breath after you’ve gone up a flight of stairs, or as you rush out the door to your car? How’s your digestion? Do you have comfortable bowel movements, or is your life all about digestive issues like constipation, bloating, bouts of diarrhea, and indigestion? How many times have you promised yourself you were going to lose weight, and maybe even did, but then put it all back on… and more? How many times in the last couple years have you started a “diet” or workout program? Once, twice, 10 times? How do your failures make you feel? If you and I were sitting face-to-face, and I asked you point blank, after all you just read, “How do you feel?” What would you say? Look, weight gain, and weight loss, are serious concerns of yours, and I get it… … but these other issues are also very serious: Joint pain, muscle weakness, digestive issues, “old” skin and hair, stubborn belly fat, zero energy, and an addiction to carbohydrates… … and they’re ALL connected. You may be thinking this all sounds crazy, but let me ask you this... How many of the following are you currently struggling with? Stubborn belly fat that will NOT go away, regardless of the diets you try Painful or uncomfortable bloating (especially after eating meals) Fat gain in strange places (chest in men, belly in ladies, for example) Painful joints Digestive issues (IBS, gas, stomach discomfort, constipation and/or diarrhea) Dry, aging skin & hair (looking older than you really are...) Energy swings (low energy before eating, high after... then crash) Constant craving of carbohydrates Trouble sleeping (can’t fall asleep and/or stay asleep) Moody and irritable if you get too hungry Indigestion Your gut & stubborn belly fat... There is growing evidence showing the connection between a “leaky” gut and issues such as weight gain, thyroid problems, Type-2 Diabetes, a lack of energy, digestion problems (constipation, bloating, gas, diarrhea, indigestion, etc.). Basically, your gut works like this… Your entire digestive system, from your mouth to your hind end, is one long tube that’s actually outside your body… even though it’s inside. This long tube has very strong barriers that keep toxic substances OUT of your body, and when these barriers are damaged, as in the case of leaky gut, then food particles and toxins that are not supposed to make it into your blood stream and lymph system, are there, which then makes organs like your liver have to work double time to get rid of this toxicity. This heavy workload then makes your liver get sluggish and bogged down (imagine yourself having to do the job of 10 people in half the time and how that would make you feel)… When your liver gets sluggish it makes it nearly IMPOSSIBLE to burn fat, because that’s where your fat gets processed… … but it all starts in your gut. Your intestines have small hair-like features that line their walls that help shuttle food along, aid in digestion, and help shuttle nutrients from your digestive system into your bloodstream to be used by your body. Unfortunately the foods you eat, including many foods falsely labeled as “healthy”, as well as too much stress, a lack of sleep, too much alcohol, a lack of Vitamin D, and more can damage this delicate system... ... Causing toxins to be “leaked” into your body, leading to weight gain, an inability to LOSE weight, achy joints, constipation, bloating, rapidly aging skin, zero energy, hormone problems, etc. What foods can lead to such a horrible situation? The biggest culprits are the “health foods” you eat every day, and have been told are the healthiest by big food corporations, your doctor, health teachers, and even the government. You often hear vague claims in the news that "sugar is bad for you" or that "wheat and gluten are bad for you", but do you truly understand what these foods do to your insides? Most people DON'T understand the reasons... ...and the fact is that some of the foods you’re going to discover can not only DESTROY your digestive system, but also hormones and metabolism. Not only that, but as you'll see below, there's a common plant-based food that you probably eat in restaurants frequently (I bet you ate this at least ONCE in the last week), and this common plant food is proven to CAUSE heart attacks! You'll also discover exactly what you need to understand to eat in a way that BOOSTS your metabolism, balances hormones, FIGHTS stubborn belly fat, heals your gut, and increases your energy, regardless of your "bad genetics". So let's get right to it… The 3 reasons you should NEVER eat wheat -- Yes, even "whole wheat" There are 3 main reasons why wheat is a terrible food for your body and does more harm than good... Note: It's important to keep reading this page because I'll show you how to get access to ALL of my best secrets for AVOIDING wheat, but still eating amazingly delicious meals that BOOST your metabolism, BALANCE your hormones, FIGHT diabetes, and also help reduce abdominal fat. It's easier than you think, so don't think that eating healthy has to be "boring" like so many people foolishly believe. The 3 reasons you should NEVER use Vegetable Oils... Although vegetable oil has a healthy sounding name, it's NOT made from vegetables...As you might already know, vegetable oil actually comes from any combination of corn oil, soybean oil, canola oil, safflower oil, and/or cottonseed oil, ALL of which are absolutely terrible for your health. In fact, they are downright deadly, and I'm not exaggerating. Here's why... Reason #1 -- Vegetable oils usually contain deadly trans fats, even if non-hydrogenated You already KNOW that trans fats are deadly, so I won't go into all of the science as to why trans fats kill you and DAMAGE your cell membranes in your body...leading to all sorts of scary health problems like cancer, obesity, Alzheimer's, heart disease, and more. Knowing these facts, I'm sure you already know to stay away from foods that contain partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. You've heard that a million times before. However, what you probably DON'T know is that even non-hydrogenated vegetable oils (all vegetable oils are refined) also contain some trans fats due to the extremely high heat, solvents, and pressure they are exposed to during the refining process. And yes, this includes so-called "expeller pressed" vegetable oils as well. All of this high heat and high pressure processing along with the use of hexane solvents actually forces some of the polyunsaturated content of vegetable oils (yes, even so-called "healthy" canola oil) to be transformed into trans fats and something even worse that we'll talk about in a minute called "MegaTrans". According to Dr. Mary Enig, PhD, and Nutritional Biochemist, "Although the Canadian government lists the trans fat content of canola at a minimal 0.2 percent, research at the University of Florida at Gainesville, found trans fat levels as high as 4.6 percent in commercial liquid canola oil". And this is the garbage that the government and giant food conglomerates are marketing to you as a "healthy oil"! Don't fall for it. Reason #2 -- Vegetable oils contain oxidized "mutated fats" that are worse than trans fat & CAUSE heart attacks All vegetable oils contain oxidized fats due to the refining process and chemical reactions with the polyunsaturated fat content of vegetable oils. Expert Nutrition author, Catherine Shanahan, MD, calls the fats in vegetable oils "MegaTrans", because they are similar in chemistry to trans fats, but even WORSE. And MegaTrans from vegetable oils are found in almost ALL processed packaged foods, as well as virtually ALL restaurant fryers. French Fries proven to immediately harm your arteries after eating them: Free radicals formed during the refining of vegetable oils create these "mutant" fats, which damage your cell membranes & chromosomes, and create massive inflammation in your body. The free radicals in vegetable oils also damage your arteries, which can directly lead to a heart attack. Please be aware that this isn't just a long-term risk of eating vegetable oils daily. There are also studies that show immediate dysfunction in your arteries, also called endothelial function. Catherine Shanahan, MD, cites in her book Deep Nutrition a study from New Zealand that showed that subjects who ate french fries from a restaurant fryer displayed immediate harm to their endothelial function of their arteries, going from a normal 7% dilation before eating the french fries to almost NO dilation at all (only 1%) AFTER eating the french fries. This is one thing that can cause a heart attack. If you think I'm exaggerating, think again... Dr Shanahan also surveyed hundreds of patients that were admitted to the hospital for a heart attack, and discovered that every single patient that just had a heart attack had consumed foods made with vegetable oils with their last meal before the heart attack...Scary huh! Think about THAT next time you order the fries with that sandwich on the menu! It really is THAT serious. Always ask to replace french fries that come with most meals with side veggies, fruit, or a salad instead. That may very well be the difference between dying tomorrow or enjoying many more years on this beautiful planet. Reason #3 -- Vegetable oils cause massive imbalances with your Omega-6 to Omega-3 fats ratio One of the other MAJOR reasons that vegetable oils are killing you is they are mostly made up of inflammatory omega-6 fats, while having very little anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats. The healthiest ratio from the scientific literature appears to be a ratio of 2:1 or even 1:1 for your omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. However, most vegetable oils skew your ratio as high as 20:1 or even 30:1 in favor of harmful inflammatory omega-6 fats. And worse yet, these omega-6 fats are NOT the innocent type found in nuts, they are the "mutant" damaged MegaTrans type that harm the tissues of your body. This Omega fat imbalance can be YET another reason why vegetable oils lead to heart disease, cancer, obesity, and many other degenerative diseases that WILL shorten your life significantly if you don't cut out the vegetable oils ASAP. As a quick note, the solution to all of these major problems with vegetable oils is to use healthy oils like coconut oil, olive oil, macadamia oil, avocado oil, and grass-fed butter, all of which are MUCH healthier than vegetable oils and don't cause any of the problems we've described in this section of the article. The TRUTH about sugar... You can't just "burn off" sugar... You've heard a million times from health experts, bloggers, and on the news that sugar is terrible for you, but most people don't truly understand WHY it's so bad... In fact, most people falsely think that if they eat sugar, they can just exercise a little bit harder that day or the next day so they can "burn it off"... Unfortunately, that kind of thinking will lead you to an early grave. It's not as simple as just "burning off sugar"... It's about what sugar does internally to the cells of your body, and how sugar gums up your internal workings, causing disease. Once again, I'm not exaggerating here, so pay close attention... If you knew exactly why sugar is so bad for you and exactly what it does to your cells in your body, I promise that you would think twice about eating that piece of cake, candy, sugary soft drink, fruit juice, or ice cream, or feeding them to your children. Here are just a few of the reasons that sugar is killing you... Just like we talked about above with wheat, sugar also causes extreme fluctuations in your blood sugar, and excess blood sugar causes Glycation inside your body, which accelerates the rate of aging of your organs, skin, arteries, and joints. Sugar also raises your triglycerides to dangerous levels, which can lead you to heart disease. If that weren't bad enough, eating sugar too frequently also causes type 2 diabetes in the long run because you wear out your pancreas and insulin sensitivity. And if you need even MORE reasons why sugar will kill you, sugar also slows down your white blood cells, making infection more likely, and even allowing CANCER cells a better chance to form in your body. Scary stuff huh! Of course, you already know that sugar makes you fat, and gives you excess calories without any beneficial nutrients whatsoever. To clarify, when we talk about how much damage sugar does to your body, we're NOT talking about tiny amounts such as having 5 grams of sugar from a teaspoon of honey in your tea... Small amounts of natural sugar like that are not a problem. The REAL damage occurs when you eat that piece of cake and ingest 40-50 grams of sugar in one sitting, or that bag of candy with 35+ grams of sugar, or that soft drink with 45 grams of sugar or more... Or even that so-called "healthy" smoothie at the local smoothie shop that contains a whopping 80 grams of sugar because of all of the fruit syrups they use in them. Now that you know why sugar, wheat, and vegetable oils are killing you and your family, maybe you'll think twice about eating cereals, breads, bagels, muffins, candy, and processed foods or fried foods from restaurants that are cooked in vegetable oil. Here are some examples of foods below that you might be eating and didn't even realize they are making you fatter, and making your fat cells "sick"... So-Called "Health Foods" That Are Causing You to GAIN More Body Fat? I can't tell you how many times I've walked into the kitchen of a client of mine that has hired me for nutritional counseling, and I'm shocked by what I see... Almost every time, I see their kitchen cabinets and fridge LOADED with foods that they think are "healthy" (or have been deceived by clever food labels into believing are healthy), but in reality are fat-storing traps in disguise. It's not uncommon to see foods such as: whole grain breads whole grain cereals whole grain crackers (more of that wheat that's killing you) soy milk tofu or "veggie burgers" (non-fermented soy can be harmful to your hormones) orange juice (loaded with too much fructose that raises your triglycerides) apple juice skim milk or homogenized milk margarine (deadly trans fat or even "MegaTrans") pre-packaged "diet" dinners sport drinks protein bars (most are candy bars in disguise!) overly processed meal replacements (with more junk than healthy ingredients) rice cakes (massive blood sugar spike) pasta (more wheat to age you faster) diet ice cream or diet desserts so-called "energy" drinks low-fat foods (usually replaces fat with more sugar) low-carb processed foods soybean oil, corn oil, canola oil etc, etc

Sushi fan discovers 5-foot tapeworm living inside his body AOL.com Aris Folley,AOL.com Thu, 18 Jan 10:54 PM GMT+8 Reactions Sign in to like Reblog on Tumblr Share Tweet Email A California man with a love for raw fish went to the emergency room where he told doctors about a gross discovery he made while using the bathroom. Among the doctors he shared the exciting story with was Dr. Kenny Banh, an emergency physician at Community Regional Medical Center, who recently told the story of his patient to the producers of “This Won’t Hurt A Bit,” a podcast for curious health consumers. According to Banh, the man initially came in complaining about bloody diarrhea, but later told doctors he really wanted to get treated for "worms." DR.KENNY BANH/THIS WON'T HURT A BIT Banh said he was skeptical at first, like many other ER doctors are of patients self-diagnosing themselves, but that was until the patient handed him proof in a grocery bag. “I take out a toilet paper roll, and wrapped around it, of course, is what looks like this giant, long tapeworm,” Banh said on the podcast on Jan. 8. Banh said the parasitic warm measured 5.5 feet long when unraveled and laid out on the emergency department floor. “Just my height,” the doctor said. SEE ALSO: Doctors remove 6-foot-long tapeworm from patient through his mouth The patient told Banh he discovered the helminth -- the general term for a parasitic worm-- as it began to wiggle out as he was using the bathroom. Banh said the patient was initially terrified of the sensation, thinking that his "guts were coming out.’” But as he pulled more on the parasite and felt it moving, he realized it was a tapeworm and was instantly relieved. The patient was administered a pill for treatment that would expel the rest of the parasite in his body. (DR.KENNY BANH/THIS WON'T HURT A BIT) DR.KENNY BANH/THIS WON'T HURT A BIT Banh said the patient swore that he hadn't traveled anywhere outside of the country, or did anything out of the normal that he thought could have put him at risk for such an infection. But he did confess he had a love for raw salmon sushi. “He says, ‘I eat raw salmon almost every day,’ ” Banh said. According to the CDC, there has been an outbreak of Japanese tapeworms in Pacific-caught salmon. A mystery, Banh said, was solved for the patient, who quickly vowed he will never eat salmon again. Rice

Rice Recipes This super-simple rice dish is my (gluten-free, vegan!) version of macaroni and cheese: First, cook your rice properly…. Measure out your rice dry, in the pot you’ll be cooking it in. One-half cup per person is a good ratio to use in order to decide how much to make. RINSE your rice three times! Fill up the pot with water, swishing it around with your hand, and then carefully pour off the milky-white excess water. Rinsing is a crucial step that many people skip–and they end up with gummy, gross rice and don’t know why. Do this three times, and THEN add your water for cooking. Add 1-3/4 cups of water for every cup of dry rice, and put it on the stove on high, uncovered. Wait for it to boil, and then give it a stir, just enough to break up any clumps and stop the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Cover it and reduce the heat to LOW. Set the timer for 14-15 minutes. When it beeps, the rice is NOT done yet! Go take it off the heat, mix it up to fluff it, then put the lid back on and wait 10 more minutes. I promise, it’s worth the extra waiting. Voila! Perfect rice on the stove top! Now, what to eat it with? Get California White Rice here on Amazon! Every picky, skeptical kid has loved my rice “recipe”, and it’s ridiculously simple. Just scoop out a bowl of rice, and add: about a tablespoon of coconut oil dash of garlic powder dash of onion powder dash of paprika dash of turmeric (yay, health benefits!) about a tablespoon of nutritional yeast salt and pepper to taste Mix this all up and eat it! Flavor not strong enough? Add more garlic or onion powder! Get the book here on Amazon! Other ways to change it up include adding a pat of butter, a scoop of sour cream, or even a drizzle of heavy cream. You can of course also skip the nutritional yeast and add shredded cheese, but we personally like the flavor (and B-vitamins) that the nutritional yeast adds. Sometimes I make up bowls 0f rice like this and then add a stir-fry or chunky sauce on top, to make sure that more than just the toppings get eaten! The turmeric makes the rice yellow, so “yellow rice” has become a comfort food that we enjoy. Do you have a way to make rice taste amazing that’s quick and simple? Tell us about it in the comments!

December 12, 2017 ardit CANADIAN FISHERMEN CATCH RECORD-BREAKING 320-LBS SHRIMP CANADIAN FISHERMEN CATCH RECORD-BREAKING 320-LBS SHRIMP Two men from the Canadian Atlantic Coast made an astonishing catch while fishing near the confluence of the Matane River and the St. Lawrence River. The fishermen captured a northern prawn measuring over 2.80 meters (9 ft) long and weighing more than 145 kilograms (319 lbs), the biggest crustacean of this type to have ever have been caught. Rene Kirouac and his brother-in-law, Raymond Bergeron, were sailing aboard their trawl when they noticed some unusual movement along the rocks located near the coast. Upon approaching, they noticed that the movement was caused a giant shrimp, and they set out to capture the amazing creature. Realizing quickly that their fishing traps would be useless against a crustacean of this size, the two men rushed out of their hunting rifles to handle the huge animal. “It was the most difficult catch of my life!” says Mr. Kirouac, an experienced shrimp fisherman. “It just refused to die! We fired at it from close range and knocked it repeatedly on the head with a metal shovel, but it had very little effect. It took sixteen .30-06 ammo before it stopped crawling, but we finally got it!” Biologists from the University of Quebec in Rimouski (UQAR), under the direction of Professor Denis Langevin, were quickly dispatched to take measurements of the animal and conduct various analyzes. Marine biologist Denis Langevin believes that because of its size, the crustacean probably fed on seals and other marine mammals in order to survive. Prawns can normally grow to about 15 to 16 cm in length, and their average size is about 8 cm. They are carnivores that usually feeds of various forms of zooplankton and this is the first time a specimen of such a size is fished in Canada. “We took samples of the content of its stomach and the results are absolutely stunning,” Professor Langevin told reporters. “It seems that this particular prawn fed on fish that should have been its predators, such as cod, hake, Greenland halibut and flounder. We even found some seal and beluga meat! This specimen was clearly an abnormality in the food chain.” The mystery remains whole as to the origin of the gigantic size of the crustacean. The Guinness Book of Records has confirmed this morning in a statement, that it was both the longest and heaviest ever recorded shrimp. Photographers of the organization have also been dispatched to Canada to take pictures of the creature before it is sold and eaten.

We hope you guys can exchange ideas, experience and cooking tips too. So pick something and get cooking.
